    01/01/08/100

On New Year's Day I will be heading out early to knock off the first hundred miler of the year. If the roads are clear I will be riding on the skinny tires and expect a 6 hour ride with few hills and plenty of places to turn around for those wanting to do less mileage. If the roads are not so good I will be riding the fat tires and expect the ride to take considerably longer (8 to 10 hours). If anyone is einterested reply here and I will figure out some details. While this will not be a fast ride by any means, it will not be a NBLB (no biker left behind) event.

sounds like fun, I'll have to see what my schedule looks like as we get closer but I could be in for 3 or 4 hours

unlikely for me -- if we go out on new year's eve, then i'm out. if we don't go out, and liza works, i'm out. if we dont' go out and liza doesn't work, i may be in for a 50'er or so. i can't do 100 fast right now w/out more pain then i'm willing to deal with, so the bail out options sound good to me. any ideas on the different routes?

It may be the midnight century route (CDA/Palouse Highway). I am waiting to see what the weather puts me in the mood for. AT this rate, the Centennial Trail will be clear enough to ride.

I think it's suposed to snow this weekend, but in spokane fashion could be anything by then

Either way I think I can do it, though I'm hoping for fat tires

Starting the year off right.  Sounds appealing.  Put me down as a "maybe".  Are you starting downtown?   Time?

Looks like it will be a fat tire ride. Departure time is 7 a.m. The route will head east from The Elk follow third down into east central jump over to 5th avenue and follow it to after Argonne. I will then just follow side rides until I make my way into downtown CDA. On the way back I will probably go around Saltese flat and go around the back side of tower mt. on Sands rd. then drop down into Hangman.

Option 2 is taking Valley Chapel out to Latah and then using back rides to head north and around Saltese flats before heading into CDA.

I am more or less going to be snaking around on my return trip in order to get atleast 8hrs of riding time in.

I'm in for option 1 but I'll be breaking off at Argonne to ride to work at Francis and Division at 10, so don't let my opinion sway you since I won't be there for the majority of the ride. Brent

It is close enough to the start time for me to settle on a route and I have posted it on mapmyride.com :http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wa/spokane/146129856

The weather looks good. Light wind and a chance to actually see the sun.

Mountain bike?  I've got a choice between SS Mtn bike, or cross bike.  Which should I bring?

I am sure a skinny tired road bike could be doable. A cyclo Cross bike is a great choice. I have opted for the full mtb experience only because it is a good test of some equipment I am using.
