you've clearly not drank the koolaid yet. read your petersen.

    it's a bike-nerd acronym for Sub-24 hour-Overnighter.

The idea is to get out, take a ride to a nice spot, sleep there, ride home in the morning. the whole thing takes under 24 horus. it's an overnight camping trip by bike and it's a glorious way to get in riding, camping, and usually a can of beer or two.

my top two favorites are baldy knob on mt spokane and long lake. but i really want to try badger lake this year. there's a deprecated campsite on teh river that joe and i found. it's blocked to cars and looks like a nice spot.

I've done that.  I just didn't know there was a clever hip name for it. Doesn't exactly roll off the toungue quite like 'camping' does.

does an activity really exist if there is no clever hip name for it? I think not.

i think of camping more as "destination-based" and s24o more as "journey-based" -- the point is the ride... i also like to see how little I can pack. and i'm always frustrated by the mountain of *** i bring with me.

Are you going to be camping outside on the Feb./March excursions or staying at a "roadside" motel?

I am riding up to Quillisascut Farm On Thursday or Friday (Feb 21 or22). If I go thursday I was going to camp along Lake Roosevelt (70-80 miles maybe). Perhaps as the trip gets closer our plans might merge a bit?

Hunters is a great spot; year round camping and a bar/diner -- and about 20 miles south of the Lea/Quillisascut farm.

The road from Springdale to Hunters is one of my favorites. My only concern is snow for that long of a ride. I think Spokane-Hunters is about 70 miles, which I don't want to do if there's snow. I was thinking 40 miles or so.
